Spreading himself between his own productions, a radio show, running a label and battering crowds with heavy dj sets (including in our own backyard at Emissions), J:Kenzo has been one of dubstep’s greatest (and busiest) champions. As a fellow dad, I’m in awe of this man’s productivity. J:Kenzo’s newest contribution to the genre comes via his label, Artikal Music UK, and 14 of the biggest tracks in dubstep this year.
Artikal’s compilation is a statement to the current health of dubstep as well as a blueprint for pushing the sound into new territory. Genre stars such as Truth, Biome and Sleeper lay down heavy beats for dark dance floors, while Mercy and B9 bring the jazz-influenced vibes that have been flowing from Chord Mauraders and Deep Heads.
My favorite tracks on this compilation are Thelem‘s two offerings, tripped-out fusions of purple sounds and bassweight that would go off in a big way at a West Coast festival. (who do we need to bribe to get Thelem at Emissions this year?!)
Artikal’s majestic compilation is out now on their bandcamp, pick it up and immerse yourself in the best of bassweight.
