Although it is often overlooked, the East Coast has a plethora of amazing producers. One of these such producers is Philly Street Bass badman Dev79. Many of you may know Slit Jockey Records and Seclusiasis, the labels he runs with partner in crime Starkey, and his production is just as next-level as the releases on those labels. When you run with likes of Starkey, it’s safe to assume you’re doing something right.
Yesterday, Dev79 released a new EP entitled “Boom Boom Down” on New York based label Gold Whistle, and we’re very impressed. Dev79 has been on our radar for quite some time, consistently releasing bangers for several years now. This release lives up to the standard, and surpasses it.
The EP is based around two original productions from Dev79, with several remixes of those tracks from the likes of Dave Luxe, Tanner Caldwell, and Max Klaw. The title track, Boom Boom Down, is a juke-based club slapper with a heavy rave influence that culminates in a bass-laden street-tastic epic frenzy of a beat. Thunk About It, another one for the club, comes complete with the classic Dev79 hi-hat swing that I have come to know as one of his trademarks. The remixers take these two original productions and apply their own twists, creating some altogether new concepts, while still holding the club-friendliness of the original tracks.
