LAXX – Step One EP Preview plus Free Download

February 5, 2014Ben Carvalho

LAXX has earned a stellar reputation the past couple years. His dubplates have been secret weapons for some of the biggest names in bass music and his releases have never fit into genres easily, referencing dubstep, trap and 4×4 while sounding wholly unique (Arcade is in my top 5 for 2013). LAXX’s next release, Step One, on powerhouse Never Say Die Records is getting lots of well-deserved hype now, with even dubstep’s palest horseman, Flux Pavilion, featuring the title track in his sets.

Step One oozes along a descending melody, causing scrunched faces and slow-motion-skank-sessions to take over the dancefloor. Download Step One for free here, and pick up the whole EP February 10th. Previews of the full release are below.

The Unknown returns to LAXX’s twitchier sound with a squawking synth babbling over punchy percussion.

Gold Plated is perhaps both the craziest and most trapped-out song on the EP, featuring a brain-searing build and an assault of crisp synths.

Finishing off the EP is neuro legend Emperor‘s dnb remix of The Unknown, which keeps LAXX’s bouncy vibe will throwing down seriously heavy bass.

LAXX’s Step Up EP is out next week on Never Say Die, highly recommended pick from one of my favorite artists here.
